MS Word is locked, and I can't do anything. How can I fix this? is there a trick? I hope you can help as I have worked a lot on this document and don't want to lose my changes or have to redo them.

I use Word on a daily basis for all kinds of business related tasks, and it does occasionally lock up. The easiest thing to do when it locks up is to open the Task Manager and force the program to quit.
Press the Ctl+Alt+Del keys at the same time to start the task manager on Windows systems. On a Mac you can just right-click on the application icon in the dock, and select "Force Quit".
You can also configure Word's autosave feature, so that it automatically saves your work every few minutes. That way if it freezes up again, you only lose a few minutes of work instead of an hour or a day's worth of work.
