Hi Ricky,
I'm really struggling with whether to upgrade all of my home PCs (7 of them) to Vista or to just take the plunge and move them all to Linux (Ubuntu). Upgrading 7 PCs to Vista will cost me hundreds whereas upgrading to Linux is free.
All we do as a family is surf the web, write/read emails and infrequent use of a word processor and spreadsheet. We're not into PC games. So I'm having a hard time justifying spending hundreds on Windows when it appears that Linux does everything that I need - for FREE.
What should I do?

I've used both Windows and Linux extensively for work and pleasure, and I really think Linux is going to be fine for the purposes you described - especially since you're not into PC games.
And the price is certainly right! :-)
My kids mostly play games that they find on the Internet (pbskids, disney, etc). So as long as they have a browser, there are plenty of free games available.
And with OpenOffice, you can do almost everything that Microsoft Office does, and in some cases more (e.g. convert your documents to PDF format). OpenOffice is free and runs on Linux.
I think you're on the right track sticking with Linux.
